An art therapy session is in most ways the same as a talk session only with the added element of expressing thoughts and emotions through the use of art materials such as markers, pastels, paint, clay, magazine collage, etc.

Imagine seeing your problem as an image
Draw that image in any way, shape or form using the materials provided
Notice how you feel seeing your problem outside of you and on the paper
solve the problem with another drawing or create something new out of the first drawing
notice what it feels like to be engaged with the problem solving process and reflect on other problems in this way.
